SAD NEWS FOR OKLAHOMANS

The Tumbleweed will officially close in December after operating for 25 years in Stillwater.  Owner Hank Moore has announced plans to sell the venue and its 35-acre site during a Dec. 7 auction. With a history of more than 400 concerts, the Tumbleweed was a popular stop for country artists.  In addition to Brooks, the list of those who performed there includes Hank Williams Jr., Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt, Keith Whitley, George Jones and Chris LeDoux. The final weekend features Jason Boland & The Stragglers on Dec. 30 and No Justice on Dec. 31.

BOLAND’S TRAILER STOLEN (UPDATE)

The jackass & his girlfriend the jackassette (IS THAT A WORD?), who stole the Stragglers’ equipment, merch and toys they were collecting on November 13, has been captured!  However, most of the stuff stolen has not been recovered.  So, if you were just thinking about going to a Stragglers show, now really do it, they need our support! And take some toys, too!

BABY NEWS!

Congratulations to our friends, Anne Hudson with KVET/Austin and husband Fred Andrews of Honeybrowne!  They are expecting their first baby in July!  Here’s what Anne had to say about it: “We are due July, 21st....is it proper to use ‘WE?’  I guess ‘I’ am due July 21st!  Now that we've heard the heart beat and we are indeed REALLY having a baby I wanted everyone to know!  We are both beyond excited.”

HAAM RAISES MUCH NEEDED FUNDS

Health Alliance for Austin Musicians announced recently that its first HAAM Benefit Day that was held on October 3, raised $50,000 thanks to 105 businesses across Austin that donated 5 percent or more of the day's proceeds, including $14,133 from presenting sponsor Whole Foods Market.

Matching grants totaling $50,000 from both the Topfer Family Foundation and The Moody Foundation boosted the overall total to $100,000 raised for the ground-breaking organization that provides healthcare services for Austin's low-income, uninsured working musicians. All HAAM Benefit Day proceeds
will go to increase the program capacity and provide affordable healthcare to more musicians.

"Many of the participating businesses reported their sales up 10 to 15 percent for the day. We're thrilled that HAAM Benefit Day was a win-win for the businesses and HAAM," said Robin Shivers, chairman of the HAAM Board of Directors and president of RRS Management.
